Roulette Bet Types

Last updated: 01.04.2024 by Chris Mwangi

If you have ever wanted to find out about the different types of roulette wagers there are, you have come to the right place. We will now walk you through every important type of bet there is and quickly explain to you how to understand these bets, what numbers they cover, and whether you should be making the said bet in the first place. Without further ado, let’s get right down to it and check out what wagers come with the roulette wheel. Check it out.

Inside Bets

The name Inside Bets simply comes from their location. They are located in the inside of the betting table and are usually surrounded by the Outside Bets. There are several types of Inside Bets, and we will briefly walk you through each. Let’s take at the bread-and-butter of every roulette and how these bets can impact your gameplay. We have featured the payout so that you know what you are getting into as well. Check it out!

  • Straight up 1

A Straight Up is just a bet you place on a single number out of the entire roulette wheel. There could be 37 or 38 numbers in most major variations of the game. This type of bet pays out 35:1.

  • Split 2

Split Bet is the type of wager where you will put your chip in the middle of two numbers. This way you cover both numbers. A good example is if you bet in the middle of black 13 and red 14. By placing your chip in the middle of these two numbers, you make a Split Bet. Simple as that, really. The payout is 17:1.

  • Street 3

Street Bet is when you choose to bet on three numbers by placing the bet at the beginning of a horizontal lane. So, if you want to make a Street Bet, you simply place your chip at the beginning to cover 13, 14 and 15 for example. Here, the payout is 11:1.

  • Corner 4

Corner Bet is actually a pretty cool type of bet. You basically bet on the square of four numbers by placing your chip bang in the middle where the four number borders intersect. So you can bet on a square by betting on 8, 9, 11 and not least 12. Here, the payout is 8:1 and it’s definitely not a bad idea.

  • Basket 5

Basket Bet is when you bet on five numbers at the same time. The Basket Bet is only available in American Roulette and it covers the 0, 00, 1, 2 and of course 3. The payout here is 6:1.

  • Six Line 6

Line Bet is a bet where you simply bet in the middle of two horizontal lines. So you can bet on 25-30 by placing the bet at the beginning where the two rows “intersect.” The payout here is 5:1.

Inside Bets

Outside Bets

Next, you have the so-called Outside Bets which are actually pretty cool and you can definitely get some pretty cool options by betting on these. We will now explain how these bets work and what to expect from each of them. Let’s take a look.

  • Column 1

Column Bet is a type of bet that covers a total of 12 numbers, and a good example here is the numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31 and 34. The bet will pay out 2:1 if you hit it and it turns out to be a success.

  • Dozen 2

Dozen Bet is, as the name suggests, a bet that you put on the columns, from 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. Just pick any or all three if you like, but keep in mind that the payout here is 2:1.

  • Red/Black 3

Red or Black is the bet known as the Even Money bet. In it, you get a 1:1 payout if you ever hit, and the only number that is not covered here is the 0.

  • High/Low 4

Low/High Bet is once again an Even Money bet that you are going to place on either the Low or High numbers. Basically, you will pick from 1 to 18 or 19 to 36. In both instances, you are covering a bet that comes with 18 numbers, so the payout is still 1:1 and under a 50% chance of hitting the successful series of numbers.

  • Even/Odd 5

Even or Odd is another bet like Red or Black. Basically, you are betting on the Even or Odd numbers on the roulette wheel, giving you a near 50% chance to win, but less than 50% for sure. You will cover 18 numbers in total and the payout value is 1:1.

Outside Bets

Announced Bets

These are special types of bets that you have certainly heard about. You may also have heard about French Bets. Well, they are literally the same. The Announced Bets are actually placed by just saying that you wish to bet on one of the said bets, and only then following through with chips. The croupier – or live dealer – will take notice and account for you placing these types of wagers which must happen before the betting is closed by the croupier.

Announced Bets are convenient as casinos prefer to keep the games going rather than wait for people to place chips. So, to facilitate the process, casinos train their croupiers to remember what Announced Bets have been placed and on what numbers. This makes for a quicker pace of play and is where the bets actually take their name from. You can pick from a number of options, including:

  • Voisins du Zero

Voisins du Zero is a bet that covers the 17 numbers between 22 and 25 included. This means that you will have almost have of the numbers through this type of bet, giving you a 46% chance of success.

  • Le Tiers du Cylindre

Le Tiers du Cylindre is yet another clever type of bet and it simply stands for a third of the wheel. You bet on 12 numbers, which are the numbers between 27 and 33 included.

  • Orphelins

Orphelins or orphans are the eight numbers that include 17, 34, 6, 1, 20, 14, 31, and 9. This bet is still a good option if you want to improvise a bit with your betting.

  • Jeu Zero

Jeu Zero basically means zero games and it covers the numbers that are closest to the 0, and seven numbers in total – 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15 as they appear on the wheel.

  • Neighbours

Neighbors is another bet which focuses on five numbers. When you pick a Neighbors bet, you simply want to bet on 34, 25, 17, 6 and 27 at the same time. It’s that simple.

Announced Bets

Other Bets

The bets that we have listed so far are almost always available in nearly all variants of the game. But there are some bets still that you may not find too readily, and that are the ones we want you to know about and cover. There are two, in particular, we wish to share with you:

Snake Bet

Snake Bet is a bet that zig-zags around the roulette wheel and covers 12 numbers in total, including 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 34.

Snake Bets

Finals Bet

Finals Bet is a type of bet that means that you are betting on all numbers that end on this number. This means that you are betting 4, 14, 24 and 34 at the same time. Another good example is 8. If you bet on a final 8 bet that you are wagering on 8, 18 and 28 at the same time. This is still another way to catch yourself up on some cool bets in the game of roulette.
